The main objective of this work package is to have accurate and specific epidemiological disease burden data through the following specific objectives:

• Incidence of moderate to severe diarrhoea (MSD) with confirmed Shigella aetiology in children under 5 years old in Burkina Faso and Zambia

• Attributable fraction for Shigella among all-cause MSD in children under five

• Description of prevalent colonisation factors in a subset of isolates of Shigella infections in children in Burkina Faso and Zambia

• South-South and North-South capacity building among the African sites
