Dr. Jan Holmgren, MD, PhD is Professor of Medical microbiology and immunology at University of Gothenburg, Sweden; he is also the founding Director of the University of Gothenburg Vaccine Research Institute (GUVAX). JH has published more than 600 papers in the fields of microbiology, immunology and vaccinology and has received numerous awards and distinctions for his research achievements in the fields of cholera, mucosal immunology and oral vaccines, e.g. Jahre, Jeantet, Sabin and Mahidol to name a few.  He is an elected member of several scientific academies and societies and has served on many national and international boards,  e.g. the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation (Sweden), the International Vaccine Institute (IVI), and the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization (GAVI).
